Scholars Present their Research
At MERIT's 6th Annual Research Symposium, Scholars presented their summer research to a crowd of friends, family members, health professionals, and community members. Rising juniors analyzed the physiology and epidemiology of critical issues in health including PTSD, Malaria, and lead poisoning. Rising seniors presented a summary of their independent laboratory research conducted in Johns Hopkins labs around the city.
The evening featured moving remarks from Dr. Angel Byrd, Johns Hopkins Dermatology Fellow, who shared her personal journey into medicine and provided inspiring words of encouragement. Dr. David Hellman, Chairman of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and a longtime supporter of MERIT, provided the keynote address, speaking on the critical role that MERIT plays in promoting diversity in the health care workforce. Finally, various MERIT Scholars shared their stories of personal growth and their dreams for the future.
