MERIT Scholar Shines During Visit from Congressman Elijah Cummings

MERIT Scholar Jessica Cooley recently spoke at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Grand Rounds alongside U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings. In her moving remarks, Jessica described the enlightening experience of witnessing a surgery for the first time during her MERIT clinical internship. Watching this surgery and shadowing compassionate and dedicated pediatricians solidified Jessica's goal of becoming a pediatric surgeon. Congressman Cummings delivered an impassioned and captivating speech praising the work being done in the Hopkins community and urging Jessica and other young people to never underestimate their power.
